ARTS
Bush Festival - Kangaroo Island Fringe Festival
In 2019 saw the beginnings of a new comedy, arts and music festival in the heartland of Kangaroo Island.
2019
A dedicated troop of international fringe acts performed their award winning shows to a crowd of over 100 enthusiastic locals who brought picnic baskets, chairs and rugs while the children sat on hay bales and amongst the branches. The theatre was set under magnificent gum trees next to Wittows Creek with kangaroos roaming, kookaburras laughing and sheep grazing in the paddocks.
2020
In 2020 we held our breath as the Kangaroo Island bush fires swept through the island reaching the top of Wittows Creek where the festival takes place. Had it not been for the bravery and hard work of the local farmers, volunteer mainland farm units and CFS the creek would not have survived.
The date was set for Saturday 21st March, the troop of over a dozen fringe artists had arrived on the island, the stage was constructed and the festival was nearly sold out…..and then COVID-19 hit our shores and we had to cancel the festival with 3 days notice.
2021
The much anticipated festival was a huge success with over 300 happy audience members enjoying a magnificent evening of entertainment, food and wine.
8 different fringe acts ranging from juggling, music, theater and acrobatics performed at The Shearing Shed. Set up with hay bales, gourmet food, children’s tent and a bar. The evening was superb and lots of laughs were had.
2022
6 amazing acts, roaming artists, kids workshops, food vans, live music and a whole lot of fun!
The festival line-up included theatre by Betong and Buddies, magician Tom Weil, acrobat Hannah Cryle, comedian Kel Balnaves, and tunes by band The South Season.
Our Kids Corner offered fun kids workshops, facepainting, games, activities and entertainment for the whole family.
